about

if anyone is actually reading this, here's the story of this mixtape.

It sounds stupid, but I made my first rap song before I had ever listened to rap. I had some friends who were into some political stuff at the time, and I wanted to make music with some angry intense protest vibes. I didn't really know what rap was, but I thought it was angry music, so I found an online voice recorder, looped up some random shit, wrote my first "bars," and yelled them quietly into the computer mic. Thus I became a rapper.

I started listening to a lot of rap and made like two more songs before I realized that I had more ideas I wanted to express than "fuck the government," so I wrote and recorded Long Winter. It was my first song I enjoyed actually listening to.

The problem was, I had an awfully slow computer and it was summertime, and so after doing a little mixing on the song, I decided to go outside for the rest of the summer. I kind of forgot about rapping until March of this year, when I made my Romeo and Juliet Rap battle video.

I got determined and, starting in April, I made a song each week, working towards this moment.
I'd find a beat or make one on Sunday, write to it on the weeknights, and record, mix and master on the weekends.

It was a learning experience, that's for sure. The songs on this mixtape are mainly just me experimenting with flows and styles, and being okay with it not being great. Hence the title.

I tried to explore different ideas and emotions throughout the record, from really braggadocious bars to more sentimental tracks to comedy songs, so the tracklist goes all over the place. I felt myself learning and evolving just during the two months I worked on this, so I'm excited to make more stuff in the future. (Despite the rest of the rhyme, second may not be "the best," but hopefully it'll still eventually find its way to your ears.

Enjoy!

Thank you for reading this far, imaginary reader, but if you are actually there, it would be dope if you went up and downloaded my mixtape, even if you just pay the one dollar. ;)
